Midwest Mushrooms is a family-owned gourmet mushroom farm founded in 2020 near Plainview, Nebraska. My wife, Selena, and I were both born and raised in Northeast Nebraska, where we have also raised our four children. We share a passion for the outdoors, sustainable gardening, and—of course—mushrooms. Our Cornhusker roots have given us a deep gratitude for the diversity, the people, and everything the Midwest has to offer.

People often ask how I got started in all of this. The simple answer is that it began during my childhood. I was fortunate enough to spend time searching the woods with my grandfather, B.D. Eyes Young, for the ever-elusive morel mushroom. Although I only went a handful of times, those experiences gave me an appreciation for the search and the excitement of a great find. The spark was there for good.

In 2020, I found myself wondering whether these elusive mushrooms could be cultivated. As the mycelium expands, so does my interest in the fascinating world of fungi—sometimes nearly to the point of obsession. I wanted to learn everything I could about mushrooms and how to grow them.

After many trials, errors, and successes, Midwest Mushrooms continues to grow and expand. Today, you can find us at farmers markets, pop-up stands, local shops, restaurants, and right here online.
